Ronald Connell, the store's owner and shopkeep, took over the store in April, 2007 when it was Alternate Universe . As many had observed, it was suffering quite a bit on the business side. They had one tournament a week, sales were low, the lighting was bad, not a lot of merchandise, and the previous ownership had already been setting their sights on a career change for some time. Fortunately, Ron's own needs and career change coincided with theirs and Ron is now appreciative of their efforts to help make this, his first business ownership venture, a reality!

"Being a business owner has been a refreshing and immensely satisfying challenge. Something I wish I could have started years ago." says Ron. "It keeps me in touch with the community and with the younger generation. But, there are many sacrifices, including regular weekend-days."
Ron hails from the Pacific Northwest and has lived in Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, Corvallis, San Francisco and now Portland. All west coast! He went to high school in Olympia, then off to the Evergreen State College and finally graduated with a science degree in Planetary and Earth Sciences from the University of Washington in Seattle.
So where does gaming fit into all this?
During all his college and working career, Ron has had many years of DMing experience for smaller Dungeons & Dragons groups. He now enjoys hosting larger tournaments and gaming events. He still GM's an occassional adventure, when he has the time, but growing a business is a very time-consuming project. "No one ever told me that being a hobby store owner would mean being an event coordinator! But, I'm loving every day of it, and everyone is having a fun time. It's like hosting a mini game convention every week!"
